Romnea Type is an independent digital type foundry based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Founded by Sovichet Tep in 2017 with the aim to create consistent multi-language fonts. We provide retail typefaces as well as custom type design services ranging from custom logotypes to full type families.
Romnea means “harmony” in Khmer which aligns to our vision to create multi-script fonts that each script in the family harmonizes each other.
Sovichet Tep is the founder of Romnea Type Foundry. He is a self-taught typeface designer and majored in Computer Science from Royal University of Phnom Penh. In 2013, he published two of his designs on Google Fonts (Kdam Thmor, and Kantumruy). With experiences of programming skills, he has been learning how to write OpenType features for Khmer fonts. Sovichet started Romnea to support other local type designers and to publish fonts for Cambodians. He is also interested in other Southeast Asian scripts and hopes to work on them in the near future. He has assisted the Khmer session at Southeast Asian Fonts Workshop and Phnom Penh Font Workshop organized by The Fontpad from 2017 to 2018.
